Ella is raising the funds to help us honor all fallen military personnel, in special honor of our Vice President’s son, SGT Zachary Fisher, who was killed in action on July 14, 2010 during Operation Enduring Freedom. She raised the funds by having a lemonade stand at her home.

Tomorrow is the BIG DAY - the 6th Annual Walk/Run for the Heroes! We're all very excited to see everyone!

It takes a LOT of work (for months) to pull this event together because we choose to manage it ourselves to make sure the money we raise goes directly to the memorial.

Once the t-shirt deadline passed things kicked into MAJOR overdrive as we furiously worked to get the order in to our t-shirt vendor and the 5k signs designed and ordered (please watch for them on your walk/run).

This years 5k will be the BIGGEST 5k we've had in 6 years! Almost 1300 people have registered this year, thus far <3 THANK YOU SO MUCH! Your support means so much to each & everyone of us.

YO DAWG: they will be on site at the 5k selling hot dogs & brats starting at 8:30 a.m. so bring your lawn chairs and/or blankets and plan on sticking around to visit with family, friends and teammates in the beautiful Jefferson Barracks Park setting.

WEATHER: Thus far, the weather is looking extremely promising (full of sunshine and fall weather). IF it should rain, we still walk (and/or run). Our heroes endured much more severe conditions so we always keep that in mind when the day of the 5k comes up so we complete it in their honor. Rain, snow, or sun -- WE WALK - honoring our heroes one step at a time.

DIRECTIONS: Please keep in mind that we DO have directions on the 5k website (5k.MissouriMilitary.org) should you need them. Also, there will be parking attendants on site to direct you on where to park. Parking is free, of course
.
BRING YOUR CAMERAS -- we have a LOT of photo opportunities for everyone involved (even the littles) so you never forget this special day. Please send them to me at jennifer@MissouriMilitary.org and I will post them in the Missouri Military Memorial Foundation 6th Annual 5k Walk/Run Photo Album (giving all credit to you).

You can also use the hashtag #MMMF5k on all social media accounts such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and the like. The hashtag is connected solely to the Missouri Military Memorial Foundation.

T-SHIRTS: For those of you that registered by the t-shirt deadline, you will be able to pick up your t-shirts (if you didn't do so on the 1st) at the 5k. Please help our volunteers help you faster by giving them your first & last name as well as your team name. Arriving prior to the 10 a.m. kick-off time will help tremendously (festivities start at 9 a.m.)

IN CONCLUSION: There is a reason our 5k is so special. As you journey along the pathway of the 5k, please look for the signs representing each hero being honored. Each fallen military personnel has a story. They're more than just a face and a name...they are someones loved one and most importantly, they are heroes. Be proud that you are there showing your respects and honoring each & every one of them as it keeps their memories alive. And finally, take comfort in the fact that you are offering moral support to each family who has lost their loved one during a time of war as it shows them that you haven't forgotten (and I know how much that means, personally).

"Poor is the nation that has no heroes....Shameful is the one that, having them .... forgets"

#WeWontForget

We'll see you there! :)
